Guadalajara is one of my favorite cities and destinations. Music, art, culture, textiles, furniture, food and tradition intersect in the best way making for a vibrant scene filled with color, sound and soul.

Visit the museums, churches and theaters of the Centro, head to Tlaquepaque to experience mariachi at the Parian or hang out in the myriad of hip neighborhoods soaking up the art scene.

We have a favorite AirBnB near the Templo Expiatorio which situates us in between the Centro and the Colonia Americana.

For shorter stays we have some favorite hotels in both those neighborhoods, both traditional and boutique. For a walk in nature and some great birdwatching, take the elevated train to the Patria station and check out the Bosque Los Colomos.

Try to catch a show at the Teatro Degollado and don't miss out on the Mercado Libertad for an eye-popping array of everything from mangoes to hand-stitched boots.

Feeling like a day trip out of the city? Catch the Jose Cuervo express train for a Tequila tour or head to Monte Coxala for a spa day at the hot springs overlooking Lago de Chapala. Guadalajara, Guadalajara, Guadalajara!
