Throwback Thursday: Volcan Pacaya, Guatemala

A fun side trip from Antigua, Guatemala is the hike up the Pacaya Volcano. This volcano is actively simmering so you are hopping over the hot lava at the top. Guides bring marshmellows or pizza to cook over the hot "coals". The sunset hike is best as it allows for better viewing of the lava streams. Bring a headlamp or flashlight for the trek back down the mountain! Horses are available for the forested part of the ascent if you need a boost.
