Out of the 50 states, South Carolina is the only one I have not visited. So obviously, it is at the top of my list! The clear place to start is Charleston, so I thought I would share my research with you. Please chime in and comment if you have been and have any tips or must-see places to go in Charleston or South Carolina! Visitors flock to Charleston for the charm, rich cultural heritage, gorgeous gardens and architecture, art and waterfront beauty. And the food! The low country food scene is a destination in and of itself. Notable picks are Fig, Husk, Fleet's Landing and Rodney Scott's Whole Hog BBQ. Check out the architecture by strolling around the Historic District and Rainbow Row. Enjoy the waterfront via Battery Park and do some shopping at the Charleston City Market. For the art scene, take some time to visit the Gibbes Museum of Art or Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art. Explore the gardens at Middleton Place for a beautiful outdoor activity or take a drive to Cypress Gardens. In the evening visit one of the many rooftop bars for cocktails and small bites, listen to live music or take a sunset cruise. Day trips or an added adventure to Folly Island, Isle or Palms or Sullivan Island are sure to please the beach lover. Stays range from luxe hotels to modest condos and everything in between. Some stand outs are the Palmetto, the Pinch, the Vendue and numerous VRBOs for longer stays. Looking for a year-round pool resort? Consider the Charleston Harbor Resort across the bridge in Mount Pleasant. I plan to get to my 50th state in my 50th year, so let me know where to stay and what to do in Charleston and South Carolina!
